About Uppsala

Uppsala is Sweden’s fourth largest city with a population of 200 000 inhabitants. Unique cultural treasures and an exciting history are to be found in the city of knowledge and inspiration. Uppsala has retained its small-town charm while offering a big city’s selection of shops, restaurants and other entertainment. Uppsala has many historical attractions. Among the most famous are:

The city’s geographical location with only 30 minutes to Arlanda international airport and 40 minutes to Stockholm has made Uppsala an attractive place for meetings. Valpurgis Eve - The largest student event of the year

Attendees who want to see more of Uppsala are encouraged  to stay for Walpurgis Eve on the 30th of April, immediately following ETAPS. Walpurgis Eve, referred to as 'Sista april' or 'Valborg' in Swedish, is the celebration of spring arriving in Sweden. And the celebrations at Uppsala University are truly extra special, with student floats running the Fyris River, herring lunches, the donning of the caps at Carolina Rediviva, parties and much more. Climate and Clothing

It is spring in Uppsala in April and the temperatures can vary from 5 to 15 °C. Please note there may be occasional showers. Weather information and forecasts are available from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.

Passport and Visas

Delegates are advised to contact the nearest embassy, consulate or travel agency for information about the passport and visa requirements from their country for entry to Sweden.

Local Currency

The Swedish monetary unit is the Swedish krona (SEK), divided into 100 öre. Major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. There are several currency exchange offices and cash dispensers at Stockholm Arlanda International Airport and in Uppsala. Exchange rates may vary. Current exchange rates.

Electricity

In Sweden the electrical voltage used is 220/230V.
