Whilst you’re planning your travel and booking your flights for the 2026 conferences, we thought it would be nice to look back on the best bits of 2025. We asked some ETAPSers at the banquet in Hamilton what their favourite bit of ETAPS 2025 was, and this is what they said:

Holger Hermanns, Saarland University:

“The Ask Me Anything!”

Editor’s note: Holger was one of the speakers for the Ask Me Anything on Software Liability, and the AI Act and what it means for us. The Ask Me Anything sessions will be returning in 2026, so make sure you’re there for the hot debate.

Kevin Batz at ETAPS

Kevin Batz, RWTH Aachen:

“This is my fourth time at ETAPS, it’s always great but this year is special! On the one hand, I won the dissertation award, but on the other hand, meeting my colleagues and so many great people is always great!”
Niklas Metzger at ETAPS Rafi Khatchadourian at ETAPS Jakob Schulz at ETAPS Irina Muntean at ETAPS

Niklas Metzger, CISPA, Rafi Khatchadourian, CUNY Hunter College,
Jakob Schulz, TU Munich, Irina Muntean, TYTAN Technologies:

“The dinner! And the live music!”

Editor’s note: A lot of people said this! I hope the local organizers in Turin are taking note, they have a high standard to maintain!

Arnd Haartmanns, University of Twente:

“A very difficult question. There were quite some interesting talks and I really liked that it worked well to jump from one session to another! Also people were very on time!”

Editor’s note: Take note, speakers for 2026.
