Guarding Privacy Over Time: Challenges and Solutions in Continuous Data Observation

April 15, 9-10am
Room: TBA

In today’s world, where data is constantly being collected, safeguarding individual privacy in ever-changing environments has become more important than ever. This talk will focus on differential privacy in settings where data is continuously observed and updated over time. Unlike static environments, continuous observation presents unique challenges, such as the risk of cumulative privacy loss and the potential for adversaries to make inferences from correlated data outputs. We will explore the foundational principles of differential privacy and discuss how these concepts apply in dynamic, real-time data streams. In particular, we’ll cover new composition theorems for ongoing updates, while highlighting key techniques and the trade-offs involved in preserving privacy over extended periods.
