Reaching the Conference Site


Below you can find information about how to reach the Campus Nord of the UPC where ETAPS 2004 will be held. This includes  information on how to reach the campus from the residences and hotels offered by the ETAPS 04 registration and accommodation service. If you have reserved a hotel room on your own, then you can look at the  Barcelona Metropolitan Transport pages to find the best way to reach the UPC from your hotel. In particular if you click "I want to go to ...", you will find an application that will tell you the best ways of arriving from any given origin to any given destination.


From the Airport:

Going from the Airport to the ETAPS site by taxi is quite fast . Unless you are arriving in a rush hour (7:30 - 9:30 and 17:00 - 20:00) it will take you around 15 minutes since both the Airport and the Campus Nord of the UPC are on the south of Barcelona and the Campus  is "almost" connected by highway with the Airport. If you want to come by taxi, ask the driver to take you to the Campus Nord of the UPC, at the "cantonada Sor Eulalia d'Anzizu i Dulcet" (this means the crossing of the streets Sor Eulalia d'Anzizu and Dulcet). If the driver asks you the way to go, you should answer that via the "Ronda de Dalt (exit 10)". This is the highway that links the UPC and the Airport. The taxi should cost you 15 - 20 Euro.

If you prefer public transportation then the train from the Airport to Sants Station is the best option. Below you can see how to reach the conference site from there.

From Sants Station

The Campus Nord of the UPC can be easily reached from Sants Station by Metro. In particular, you should take line 3 (green line) and get off at Palau Reial. Then you should take the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela (uphill). In front of you, you will see the Campus Nord. Here and here you can have a general overview of the area including the metro station. In the maps, there is no clear entrance to the Campus Nord at the end of the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela. Actually, you can find a path there to enter into the campus.

From Sants station, you can also reach the conference site by bus. In particular, the bus 78 (here you can find information about this line) will take you from Sants station and leave you at Av. de Esplugues in the crossing with Miret i Sans  (the stop is called Av. Esplugues - Caterina de Siena, in this map Miret i Sans is only called Miret). If you ask the driver for help, you should tell him that you are going to ESADE (this is a well known Business Administration School which is in front of the bus stop). Then, to reach the conference site you just have to go downhill along the street Miret i Sans.

From Residencia Torre Girona.

From the entrance of the residence, at the street Dulcet, walk uphill. You will first arrive at the Plaça Eusebi Guell. If you are going to the Vertex building, where many of ETAPS activities will take place, then continue uphill through the street Dulcet. On your right you will have the Vertex. If you are going to some other building in the campus, then at the Plaça Eusebi Guell you should turn to your left taking the Av. del Exercit. For details, see this map and this map.

From the Residencia de Investigadores

Take the metro al the station Liceu, in the Ramblas, towards "Zona Universitaria". Get off at the station Palau Reial.  Then you should take the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela (uphill). In front of you, you will see the Campus Nord. Here and here you can have a general overview of the area including the metro station. In the maps, there is no clear entrance to the Campus Nord at the end of the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela. Actually, you can find a path there to enter into the campus.

From the Residencia Campus del Mar

There are several ways to go to the Campus Nord. You can go just by Metro. In particular, you can take the metro at the stations Barceloneta or Ciutadella - Vila Olímpica and go to Passeig de Gràcia (line 4). There you you have to take line 3 towards "Zona Universitaria"  and get off at the station Palau Reial. The problem with this option is that, when going towards Passeig de Gràcia, you are moving in the opposit direction. If you want to go more straighforwardly, then you can take a bus close to this residence. In particular you may take any of the following buses: 36, 57, 59, 64 or 157 (59 and 64 are the most frequent ones) and get off at the Colombus monument (in Spanish, Colón). There you can take the metro at the station Drassanes that will take you directly to Palau Reial. Once in Palau Reial, you should take the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela (uphill). In front of you, you will see the Campus Nord. Here and here you can have a general overview of the area including the metro station. In the maps, there is no clear entrance to the Campus Nord at the end of the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela. Actually, you can find a path there to enter into the campus.

From this Residence you can also go directly to the Campus Nord taking the bus 64. In particular, yo can take this bus close to the residece and it will leave you (last stop) at the Pl. de Pedralbes (see the map), in particular, the bus will leave you where the blue spot is on the map. Then you will just have to walk downhill along the Av. Pedralbes, then take  the street Sor Eulalia de Anzizu and you will arrive at the Campus (around 5 minutes walk). The only problem is that the bus may take more than one hour to go from the residence to the last stop.

From the Av. Paral.lel Area (TRYP Apolo and Auto Hogar Hotels)

Take the metro al the station Parallel, towards "Zona Universitaria" (line 3). get off at the station Palau Reial.  Then you should take the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela (uphill). In front of you, you will see the Campus Nord. Here and here you can have a general overview of the area including the metro station. In the maps, there is no clear entrance to the Campus Nord at the end of the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela. Actually, you can find a path there to enter into the campus.

From the Av. Diagonal Area (HUSA L'Illa Hotel)

Cross the Av. Diagonal and take any of the following buses: 7, 33, 63, 67, 68 or 78. If you take the buses 7, 33, 67 or 68 get off at the stop Av. Diagonal - Tinent Coronel Valenzuela.  Then you should take the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela (uphill). In front of you, you will see the Campus Nord. Here and here you can have a general overview of the area including bus stops and metro stations. In the maps, there is no clear entrance to the Campus Nord at the end of the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela. Actually, you can find a path there to enter into the campus. If you take the buses 63 or 78 you have to get off at Av. de Esplugues in the crossing with Miret i Sans  (the stop is called Av. Esplugues - Caterina de Siena, in this map Miret i Sans is only called Miret). From Les Corts Area (NH Les Corts and NH Rallye)

There are two ways to reach the conference venue. On one hand,  you can take the metro al the station Les Corts towards "Zona Universitaria" (line 3). Get off at the station Palau Reial.  Then you should take the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela (uphill). In front of you, you will see the Campus Nord. Here and here you can have a general overview of the area including the metro station. In the maps, there is no clear entrance to the Campus Nord at the end of the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela. Actually, you can find a path there to enter into the campus. On the other hand, you can take the bus 75 (only Monday to Friday) that will take you directly to the Campus Nord. In particular, you can take this bus at the stop in Gran Via Carles III and get off at the stop Gran Capità. This stop is located in a corner of the campus (see the map). It is easy to recognize the place because the closest building in the campus is the Nexus (a black round building completely covered by glass) crossing the street you can see a kind of very ugly (kitsch) pseudo-castle which belongs to the Spanish Army.

From Plaça del Centre Area (NH Forum and NH Numancia)

There are two ways to reach the conference venue. On one hand,  you can take the metro al the station Plaça del Centre towards "Zona Universitaria" (line 3). Get off at the station Palau Reial.  Then you should take the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela (uphill). In front of you, you will see the Campus Nord. Here and here you can have a general overview of the area including the metro station. In the maps, there is no clear entrance to the Campus Nord at the end of the street Tinent Coronel Valenzuela. Actually, you can find a path there to enter into the campus. On the other hand, you can take the bus 54 that will take you directly to the Campus Nord. In particular, you can take this bus at the stop in Marques de Sentmenat and get off at the last stop. You will be in the street Dulcet, almost in the Plaça d'Eusebi Güell, just in front of the Vertex Building (see the map).

From the hotel Arenas.

Walk uphill the street Capitán Arenas and turn at Manuel Girona on your left. Continue along Manuel Girona until you arrive at Av. Pedralbes. Cross the road and follow Pg. del Til.lers and then street Dulcet on your left. You will first arrive at the Plaça Eusebi Guell. If you are going to the Vertex building, where many of ETAPS activities will take place, then continue uphill through the street Dulcet. On your right you will have the Vertex. If you are going to some other building in the campus, then at the Plaça Eusebi Guell you should turn to your left taking the Av. del Exercit. From the hotel Bonanova Park.

Walk downhill the street Capitán Arenas and turn at Manuel Girona on your right. Continue along Manuel Girona until you arrive at Av. Pedralbes. From the hotel Pedralbes

From the hotel Victoria

Go uphill the Av. Pedralbes for a few metres and take Pg. del Til.lers on your left and then street Dulcet again on your left.You will first arrive at the Plaça Eusebi Guell. If you are going to the Vertex building, where many of ETAPS activities will take place, then continue uphill through the street Dulcet. On your right you will have the Vertex. If you are going to some other building in the campus, then at the Plaça Eusebi Guell you should turn to your left taking the Av. del Exercit.
